Membership Information

Who Can Join?

• Membership in the League of Women Voters is open to any person who is 16 years old or older.

• There is one type of membership - individual (primary). However, two members in the same household are able to link the two accounts.

• Students are welcome but will have to pay the minimum $20 dues.

• Persons who have been members for 50 years are Life Members and will continue to have their member dues waived.

• Membership will be valid for a year from the time the member joins or renews.

• Each person will need to have an email address to access the LWVUS site to join, renew or edit personal information.

Money Matters

• Dues are pay-as-you-can.

• The recommended dues payment is $75 with the option to pay less, with a minimum of $20.

• Dues are collected by the national League (lwv.org).

• Dues are split between the local, state and national Leagues (local -20%, state - 47%, and national - 33%). There will be three charges to your credit card that reflect these allotments.

•  If paying by check, make the check payable to LWVUS and mail it along with your membership form to LWV SLOCO, P.O. Box 4210, San Luis Obispo, CA, 93403. Download the new member form here.

• You will need an email address to log on to the LWV site and pay dues.

Donations

We are grateful to our members who support the League with their donations. If you wish to donate to the League you can do so either on our website or on the national website. These are the ways you can donate:

• You can use the donate button on the LWV site and all of the donation will come to our local League.

• You can use the donate button on this site and all of your donation will come to our League.

• If when you join or renew your membership and choose to pay more than $75, the excess will be considered a donation and split between the local, state and national Leagues in the same proportion as the dues.

• Donations to LWVSLO are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law and are not split with LWVC and LWVUS. Donations to LWVC or LWVUS are not tax-deductible.

Member Involvement

Once you are a member, there are many ways that you can become more involved or more informed. Here are some of them:

• Read the monthly Voter newsletter - packed with lots of relevant, timely information.

• Attend one of our four yearly meetings.

• Tune in to one of our monthly virtual Coffee Hours or Cocktail Hours to meet other members and discuss interesting topics.

• Watch a webinar.

• Join one of our Committees.
